Dirt and Wind Suck, More Please

I started today with a plan. I would ride into the wind for an hour or so then turn around.  I figured that would be more fun then getting exhausted then riding into the wind. "Ho ah, Pain is weakness leaving the body." like whatever. :)
The problem was I ran out of trail, so I go looking for the other end of the trail.  Didn't find it but did get in some off road hill/mountain stuff.  I think the trees tried to kill me.  lots of deer. :)  Bentonville is a great town for cycling.  Trails (on and off road), parks, the works.

I had a nice little ride in Kansas. There was a car show. Knee was swoolen by the time I got back. In Co I road up the frontage road to a Trek shop and got some tools. Road through some nice neighbor hoods. Sore again by the time bike was put up. At least getting good at stowing bike.

Parts Run

View 2011-05-24 16:47 in a larger map

I had a near disaster today, before starting. The bike mount broke loose and it was hanging by straps and the cable lock. I'm incredibly lucky, as the trailer should have crushed the whole frame. Only the seat was crushed and the tire maybe a little out of true. I stuffed the bike into my sleeper and went to a truck stop, and then to find a hardware store. Google to the rescue. I was able to straiten up the seat with a peddle wrench and off I went. Got some bolts and a drill bit, to remount the spindle with larger bolts, and back I came. Need to do a better job watching for traffic, cut rite in front of a car. Dumb. Only got in about 8 miles, knee still hurting as well as other bits. It felt good though. Pure 80's and Pure 70's on the MP3.

Dinner. Rice with cooked with large can of chicken chunks, and home made manwich sauce. I like mine with lots of red pepper and hot sauce.

Fix it Day

Knee still healing, I hope. Not quite up to much riding. I took some time today to true my front wheel. This is surprisingly easy, still needs work but I have to get a real spoke wrench first. Also adjusted my spindle mount to move bike back closer to the cab. Nother day or two I hope to ride.

Ft. Snelling Wreck

Great day for riding. Got out and wandered over towards the Minnesota river. Put on some miles crossed on the 494 rite of way then came back and took trail north. There was a bald eagle over a lake. Crossed the Mendota bridge and down a steep into the river bottom by Ft Snelling. Visited tourist center, then wiped out on sidewalk heading out. Thats on the ground below where the picture was.(this image appears to be flipped for some reason) Knee jambed hard, some scratches. Trip up the hill was fun, bottom gear. Long trip back. Quarter Flash and Queen for this run.

Ride with the kid

This one doesn't count. The boy fell hard like 2 summers ago, and hasn't ridden since. I bribed him $5 to ride. We dug out his bike from under 3 others, pumped up the tires adjusted the brakes and off we went. Easy riding except for one sprint around a lake, maybe half a mile, 3/4 by the time I lapped him, (his bike small free style.)

4th, or First Real Ride

Got more than I bargained for maybe. Cool today, wore lite jacket/long sweat shorts. Moved seat Aft about an inch, felt better. Bike problem front forks bent slightly by getting loose from spindle mount. Front wheal misaligned a little. Got out from yard in Kansas City. Turns out River Front Rd, isn't just a gravel path. I wandered around KS side. May have found the highest point in KC, good cardio value there. Remarkable divides in the city, crossing under US-71 Bridge went from industrial and dirt pore to joggers and dog walkers, then back to pore neighborhoods. When about to retrace my path, came across a cycle path on 71 bridge... why not? So off to N. KC, wandered around familiar area, past lots of customer locations. Should have remembered that there wasn't a RR crossing, but pressed on to end and had to get back past 29 and head N then E to Chouteau bridge. Last viaduct about stopped me.
